2024 Solar Eclipse

February 14, 2024

The 2024 solar eclipse will be a total solar eclipse occurring on Monday, April 8th, 2024 at approximately 11:07 AM PDT, and will last about 4 minutes and 26 seconds. This will be the last total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States until 2044. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon completely blocks the Sun's light from reaching Earth. This creates a spectacular event where the sky darkens momentarily, stars become visible, and the corona, the Sun's outer atmosphere, glows around the black disc of the Moon.

The path of totality, where the full eclipse is visible, will cross Mexico, the United States, and Canada. It will start over the Pacific Ocean west of Mexico and then travel diagonally across North America, ending in northeastern Canada. A partial eclipse will be visible throughout all 48 contiguous US states.

Never look directly at the Sun, even during a partial eclipse. It can permanently damage your eyesight. Use safe solar eclipse glasses specifically designed for viewing the Sun.
