Self Driving Vehicles

Self-driving vehicles are coming and they will change cities, society and of course, the automotive industry. In the fully-autonomous future, cars could become a service, instead of something you own. Imagine that any time you needed a ride, a self-driving vehicle would be available to take you to your destination. If the monthly cost of such a service is less than a typical car payment, would you still want to own your own car? No maintenance costs, no insurance needed, no parking fees, and you could open up garage space for other uses.

Once the thrill of putting your life in the hands of an A.I. engineer wears off, most people will go back to doing what they do now while driving--texting, eating, and putting on makeup. In the autonomous future, passengers will be watching movies, sleeping and making babies. Opaque windows could end up being the smartest feature of a self-driving car.

Fully autonomous vehicles are still 10-20 years off. Regulations will slow things up and self-driving vehicles will need to be able to drive better than humans, because they will be judged more rigorously.
