Water Based Drone Camera
August 22, 2025
The HOVERAir AQUA is a self-flying camera designed to operate in environments where most drones dare not go—on water, around water, and even slightly beneath it. Engineered by Zero Zero Robotics, the AQUA is the world’s first fully waterproof aerial camera that can launch, fly, and land directly from lakes, rivers, or the ocean’s surface. With its amphibious design and hands-free operation, the HOVERAir AQUA offers a new kind of aerial experience.
Weighing under 249 grams, the AQUA is exempt from registration in most countries. Its body is neutrally buoyant and IP67-rated, meaning it floats naturally and resists water intrusion even in splash-heavy conditions. The camera system features a 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensor capable of capturing 4K video at 100 frames per second, with support for HDR and H-LOG formats. A hydrophobic, self-heating lens prevents fogging and water distortion, ensuring crisp visuals in humid or wet environments.
The AQUA’s real magic lies in its autonomous flight capabilities. With over 15 intelligent flight modes—including orbit, snorkel, and mount—it can follow users across water at speeds up to 34 miles per hour, maintaining stable footage even in winds up to 33 knots. There’s no need for a controller or phone; instead, users wear a companion device called Lighthouse, which handles takeoff, landing, recording, and mode switching. A virtual tether system ensures the drone never strays too far, automatically prompting it to return if it exceeds a set distance.
For quick previews and playback, the AQUA includes a 1.6-inch AMOLED display built into the drone itself. This allows users to review clips or frame shots without connecting to an external device. With 23 minutes of flight time and onboard storage up to 128 GB, the AQUA is built for extended sessions.
