Six Legged Robot

September 2, 2025

The Hiwonder miniHexa AI Hexapod Robot is a compact, open-source robotics platform designed to offer advanced motion control and artificial intelligence with its six-legged design. It features 18 degrees of freedom to mimic the agile movement of biological creatures, offering a hands-on introduction to inverse kinematics, sensor integration, and programmable behavior.

The miniHexa is equipped with an ESP32 controller, chosen for its low power consumption and wireless connectivity. This microcontroller enables real-time control over the robot’s 18 anti-stall micro servos, which are engineered for fast response, low noise, and high precision. The result is smooth, omnidirectional movement across a variety of surfaces, with the ability to transition between walking, turning, crouching, and balancing postures with fluidity and accuracy.

The robot supports a wide range of sensor expansions, including ultrasonic distance sensors, voice recognition modules, AI vision cameras, and touch interfaces. These components allow the robot to perform tasks such as obstacle avoidance, face tracking, color recognition, and voice-controlled commands. Users can program these behaviors using Arduino or Microsoft MakeCode, making the platform accessible to both beginners and experienced developers. To support learning and experimentation, Hiwonder provides over 200 STEM education tutorials, circuit diagrams, and open-source code libraries.
