Silent Keyboard

Unlike standard mechanical keyboards, which are often prized for their loud clicking sounds, the ATM 98 Silent keyboard focuses on a silent-first philosophy. It is manufactured by Dry Studio, a sub-brand of the boutique keyboard maker Angry Miao, and targets users who want the satisfying feel of a mechanical switch without disturbing their colleagues. The keyboard utilizes a 98 percent layout, meaning it retains the number pad—a crucial feature for data entry and productivity—while being slightly more compact than a traditional full-sized keyboard.
At the heart of the ATM 98's silent performance are its custom switches, known as Bsun Light Sakura switches. In the world of mechanical keyboards, the switch is the component under the keycap that registers the keystroke. Traditional silent switches often feel mushy or soft because they use rubber dampeners to absorb impact. However, the ATM 98 uses a specialized S-shaped structure within the switch to reduce noise while maintaining a crisp, solid feeling when the key hits the bottom. This allows users to type quickly and comfortably without the distracting clatter associated with mechanical boards, making it appropriate for professional environments.
The build quality of the ATM 98 goes beyond just the switches. It features an advanced internal construction method called a gasket mount. In simple terms, the internal plate that holds the switches is sandwiched between soft foam gaskets rather than being screwed directly into the metal case. This creates a slightly flexible, cushioned typing experience that absorbs vibrations. The keyboard is packed with an eight-layer dampening system, including various types of specialized foams (like Poron and switch pads) that fill the empty space inside the case. This eliminates hollow sounds and ensures that the only noise produced is the quiet, muted thud of the keys.
Visually, the keyboard stands out with a unique combination of materials. The bottom case is made from CNC-machined aluminum, providing a heavy, premium base that keeps the keyboard stable on the desk. The top case, however, is made from semi-transparent acrylic. This design choice, inspired by modern architecture, allows for subtle lighting effects to shine through without being overly flashy. It includes a prominent Star Ring knob, which is a physical dial that can be used to control volume or scroll through pages. This knob also features a lighting ring that can indicate battery levels or capitalization status. For connectivity, the ATM 98 supports three different connection modes: Bluetooth for connecting to multiple devices like tablets or laptops, a 2.4G wireless dongle for a fast and lag-free connection to a desktop computer, and a standard wired USB-C connection.
