Portable Touch Alcohol Detector

January 20, 2026

EthyloKey is a portable alcohol detector currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter, marketed as the first device of its kind to use touch-based technology rather than breath analysis. The project aims to provide a more discreet, hygienic, and convenient way for individuals to monitor their alcohol levels. Instead of blowing into a tube, users simply place their finger on the device's sensor to receive a reading.

The device utilizes advanced skin-surface sensors to detect alcohol molecules, providing a reading in seconds. It features a minimalist design with a color-coded LED feedback system: green indicates a safe level, orange suggests caution, and red signals that the user is over the legal limit. To enhance its utility, EthyloKey pairs with a dedicated smartphone app via Bluetooth. The app provides more detailed data, including a predictive alcohol level feature that estimates when a user will be back to a sober state based on their current reading and metabolic factors.

The EthyloKey is designed with Qi wireless charging capabilities. Its compact, keychain-style form factor makes it easy to carry in a pocket or attach to a bag. The device is built to be a lifestyle tool that promotes responsible drinking by providing real-time data in social settings without the social friction or hygiene concerns associated with traditional breathalyzers.
