Motorized Camera Dolly

March 11, 2026

The HyperDolly HY-01 is a trackless, motorized camera dolly designed to provide smooth, programmable cinematic motion without the need for traditional heavy rails or sliders. Released as an upgraded version of the original crowdfunding model, the HY-01 features a compact, foldable CNC-machined aluminum chassis and a payload capacity of 26 pounds. This allows it to support a wide range of setups, from mirrorless cameras to fully rigged cinema packages like the ARRI Alexa Mini, provided the combined weight of the camera and tripod remains within the limit.

The system is powered by a 240 MHz dual-core microcontroller and a high-torque silent stepper motor, offering precise control over a virtually unlimited travel length. It utilizes 6.5 inch soft-compound polyurethane wheels to dampen micro-vibrations from minor surface imperfections, though it is intended primarily for even studio or indoor floors rather than rough outdoor terrain. A built-in worm-gear mechanism allows for fine-tuning the steering angle, enabling the dolly to move in perfectly locked-in straight lines or consistent arcs for circular tracking shots.

Operational control is managed through a 2.4 GHz wireless remote with a range of over 100 meters. The software includes several dedicated motion modes to automate production workflows: A/B Mode for repeatable takes between two defined points, Loop Mode for continuous oscillation in interview or B-roll settings, and a Hyperlapse Mode that automates the move-shoot-move sequence. Users can also utilize Live Mode to adjust the dolly's speed and direction in real time using tactile physical controls.
