Modular Desktop Control Center
January 8, 2026
The UltraBar X is a modular desktop control center currently funding on Kickstarter, designed to consolidate control of PC applications, system monitoring, and smart home devices into a single, customizable interface. Developed by Manchi, the device features a magnetic modular system that allows users to snap on different functional blocks to build a setup tailored to their workflow. The central component is the CoreBar, a hub equipped with a 7-inch LCD touchscreen (280 x 1424 resolution) that displays real-time data like CPU usage, weather, or media controls. It also runs on voice commands.
The system expands through several specialized modules that attach magnetically. The VivoCube adds a smaller 2-inch AMOLED touchscreen for dedicated widgets, while the SenseCube integrates environmental sensors to monitor temperature, humidity, ambient light, and even motion via mmWave technology. For tactile control, the DotKey module offers mechanical switches for programmable macros, and the KnobKey provides a precision rotary dial ideal for volume or media editing. These modules allow users to trigger complex automations, such as a Movie Mode that dims smart lights and launches specific apps simultaneously.
In terms of specifications, the main CoreBar unit measures approximately 7.83 x 1.98 x 2.35 inches and weighs 8.82 ounces. The add-on modules are compact cubes measuring roughly 1.98 inches on all sides. The device is compatible with Windows, iOS, and Android, with macOS and Linux support expected in the future. It supports over 90 platforms through its built-in app store, enabling plug-and-play functionality for a wide range of software and smart home ecosystems. It runs on a proprietary operating system called LineOS and connects via USB-C, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
