Intelligent Tracking Phone Gimbal
December 14, 2025
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is a flagship smartphone gimbal designed to bring professional-grade stabilization and intelligent features to mobile content creators. As the latest entry in the popular Osmo series, it introduces significant upgrades in mechanical flexibility and software integration. The most notable mechanical improvement is the ability to perform a seamless 360-degree horizontal pan rotation. Unlike previous models that had limited rotational range, the Osmo Mobile 8 can spin continuously, enabling panoramic shots and complex camera movements without hitting a mechanical stop. This is paired with robust 3-axis stabilization that effectively counteracts shakiness, ensuring video footage remains smooth even when walking or moving quickly.
A new Multifunctional Module attaches to the gimbal and serves three distinct purposes: AI tracking, lighting, and audio reception. The module powers the advanced tracking system, which allows the gimbal to recognize and follow subjects—both humans and pets—even when using third-party apps or the phone's native camera, rather than being restricted solely to the DJI Mimo app. This integration extends to Apple's DockKit, providing seamless subject tracking for iPhone users across various video platforms. Additionally, the module features a built-in fill light to improve video quality in dim environments and acts as a receiver for DJI's wireless microphone systems (like the DJI Mic 2), streamlining the audio recording setup for vloggers.
Physically, the Osmo Mobile 8 is designed for versatility and ergonomics. It features a built-in extension rod that telescopes out, acting as a selfie stick to capture wider angles or high-perspective shots. The handle also houses a built-in tripod, allowing the device to stand freely on flat surfaces for hands-free recording. The grip has been engineered for comfort, particularly during low-angle shooting, and the magnetic phone clamp provides a secure and quick way to attach and detach the smartphone. Despite these integrated features, the gimbal maintains a portable form factor with a foldable design that makes it easy to transport.
The device is powered by a battery capable of delivering up to 10 hours of operation on a single charge. It also supports phone charging, effectively acting as a power bank for the attached smartphone to extend filming sessions. Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth 5.3, ensuring a fast and stable link between the gimbal and the phone. For novice users, the companion DJI Mimo app offers easy-to-follow tutorials and one-tap editing features, simplifying the process of creating polished, shareable content right from the smartphone.
