High-Speed Cinema Camera
October 11, 2025
The Pixboom Spark is a compact, affordable high-speed cinema camera capable of capturing up to 2,182 frames per second at 2K resolution and 1,171 fps at 4K. It features a 4.6K global shutter sensor, continuous RAW recording to SSD, and exceptional low-light performance. The camera’s dual native ISO (400 and 1600) and 85 percent quantum efficiency enable clean slow-motion footage even in low-light conditions. This is achieved through its BSI sensor architecture, which significantly improves light sensitivity.
The Pixboom Spark features a Super 35mm back-side illuminated global shutter sensor with a 4.6K 3:2 open-gate readout (4608 × 3072) that eliminates rolling shutter artifacts like skew and wobble. Frame rate options vary by resolution and aspect ratio. It can record at 670 fps at 4.6K open gate (3:2), 887 fps at 4K 16:9, 1,171 fps at 4K 2.37:1, 1,724 fps at 2K 16:9, and 2,182 fps at 2K 2.37:1. These options give filmmakers and researchers flexibility to balance resolution and speed based on their creative or analytical needs.
Unlike traditional high-speed systems that rely on short RAM buffers, the Spark records continuously to an SSD, allowing for up to seven minutes of uninterrupted RAW capture at maximum settings. For monitoring and control, the Spark includes a 3.5-inch high-brightness LCD, 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 outputs, and wireless control via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
