Global Science Video Competition

May 2, 2025

The Breakthrough Junior Challenge is an annual global competition that encourages high school students to explore and explain complex scientific concepts in an engaging and creative way. Founded by Julia and Yuri Milner in 2015, the challenge provides young minds with an opportunity to showcase their understanding of physics, mathematics, and life sciences through short (maximum 2:00 minutes in length), compelling videos.

The 2025 edition of the Breakthrough Junior Challenge continues its tradition of inspiring students to think critically and communicate scientific ideas effectively. Participants, aged between 13 and 18, are required to submit a video that simplifies and illuminates a scientific concept in an innovative manner. The competition values creativity, clarity, and engagement, ensuring that the explanations are both accessible and thought-provoking.

The winner of the 2025 Breakthrough Junior Challenge receives a substantial prize package, including a post-secondary scholarship valued at two hundred fifty thousand dollars. Beyond the financial rewards, the Breakthrough Junior Challenge serves as a platform for young scientists to gain recognition and inspire others. The challenge not only celebrates scientific curiosity but also fosters a global community of learners passionate about discovery and innovation. The Breakthrough Junior Challenge is open for applications now.
