Enhanced QWERTY Keyboard

November 26, 2025

The QwertyMax (created by TypeMax) is a new hardware keyboard project currently funding on Indiegogo. It proposes a radical but intuitive update to the standard QWERTY layout we have used for over a century. Its main goal is to eliminate the awkward 'Shift + Key' combinations required to type common symbols like @, #, and !.

Standard keyboards are based on the design of mechanical typewriters, which had physical limitations that forced engineers to hide symbols behind a Shift key to save space. The QwertyMax removes this restriction by adding dedicated physical keys for common symbols, editing commands, and navigation tools. This means users no longer need to perform two-handed finger stretches to type characters like the at-symbol, the hashtag, or the exclamation point.

Beyond simple typing, the device acts as a control center for computer operations that usually require software shortcuts. It includes a command zone with single-function keys for high-frequency tasks such as copying, pasting, cutting, undoing, and redoing actions. This design aims to reduce the repetitive strain caused by twisting fingers into awkward positions to execute commands like Control-C or Control-V. The keyboard also integrates a browser control section. This area includes buttons specifically for opening new tabs, closing tabs, refreshing pages, and moving backward or forward in the browser history, essentially moving mouse clicks onto the keyboard.
