Customizable Humanoid Robot

July 26, 2025

The Unitree R1 Intelligent Companion is a compact humanoid robot designed to bring expressive movement, real-time interaction, and AI-powered autonomy into everyday environments. Standing roughly four feet (122 cm) tall and weighing just 55 pounds (25 kg), the R1 is engineered for agility and versatility, offering a glimpse into the future of personal robotics at a price point that challenges industry norms.

Equipped with 26 joints and powered by dual motors, the R1 can perform a wide range of dynamic movements including walking, running, cartwheels, handstands, and even kickboxing routines. Its lightweight frame and advanced balance algorithms allow for fluid motion across varied terrain, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The robot’s design emphasizes movement first, with the idea that diverse mobility forms the foundation for completing real-world tasks.

The R1 features binocular vision, a four-microphone array, and stereo speakers, enabling it to see, hear, and respond to its surroundings. Internally, the R1 runs on an 8-core CPU and GPU, with a removable battery that supports up to one hour of active use. The system is designed to be customizable, with developers able to modify behavior, gestures, and responses through open APIs. Unitree encourages experimentation, positioning the R1 as a platform for robotics research, classroom learning, and creative development.
