Competition Robotics Kit

April 24, 2026

Blueprint Robotics is a modular, competition-focused educational ecosystem from Sphero designed for middle and high school students. It aims to reduce the barriers to entry for robotics by providing a low floor, high ceiling platform engineered for rapid design and testing, enabling students to move from a box of parts to a functioning robot in under 90 minutes.

The centerpiece of the ecosystem is the Swerve Drive Robot, a fully assembled chassis that allows for 360-degree movement and omnidirectional orientation. This base serves as the foundation for robots which students can customize using 355 mechanical parts and various electrical components, such as high-torque motors, high-speed motors, distance sensors, and magnetic proximity switches. Unlike traditional kits that require specialized tools, Blueprint Robotics parts are designed for easy assembly and disassembly by hand. The system is also CAD-compatible, supporting standards like SolidWorks and Onshape to bridge the gap between physical building and professional engineering design.

For programming, the platform utilizes the Blueprint Studio software, which supports both beginner-friendly drag-and-drop Python snippets and direct Python coding for advanced learners. The hardware is backed by over 100 hours of standards-aligned curriculum and guided builds available through Sphero Central. These resources cover foundational concepts in mechanical and electrical engineering, such as control systems and digital electronics, and are designed to fit within standard classroom periods or after-school CTE (Career and Technical Education) coursework.
