Bionic Ankle Wearable

February 12, 2026

The Dephy Sidekick is a pioneering bionic wearable designed to assist with walking by providing a powered boost at the ankle. It is a lifestyle and wellness product rather than a medical device, functioning similarly to how an e-bike assists a cyclist. The primary goal of the Sidekick is to help users move farther and faster while reducing joint fatigue and general discomfort during everyday activities.

Technically, the Sidekick features Real-Time Adaptive Assist technology, which allows the device to automatically learn a user's unique gait. It adjusts to changes in speed, stride, and terrain in real-time without requiring any manual input from a remote or a smartphone app. The system provides up to 100 pounds of joint offload, which significantly reduces the wear and tear on the body during long walks. Users can choose between three power levels to customize the amount of assistance they receive based on their current needs.

The hardware is built from aerospace-grade aluminum alloy and includes a removable, rechargeable battery that fits directly onto the device, eliminating the need for external wires. Each Sidekick weighs approximately 1.4kg (3.1 lbs) and is designed to maintain a natural range of motion for the ankle. The system is paired with a specialized shoe that contains an integrated carbon fiber plate to maximize efficiency. On a single charge, the batteries can provide up to five miles of walking assistance at Power Level II, and they can be recharged from 0 to 100% in about 1.5 hours.
