AI Music Coach

March 5, 2026

ROLI has recently introduced its AI Music Coach, a sophisticated digital tutoring system designed to revolutionize piano learning through real-time physical and conversational interaction. Launched in a limited closed beta on February 5, 2026, the software is built directly into the ROLI Learn app and is powered by the company's new Airwave hardware.

The defining feature of the AI Music Coach is its ability to see and hear the student simultaneously. Utilizing ROLI Vision technology, the Airwave hardware uses high-speed infrared cameras to track 27 joints in each hand at 90 frames per second. This allows the AI to provide immediate, detailed feedback on posture, finger positioning, and technique—elements that traditional learning apps typically cannot monitor. The system analyzes five key dimensions of piano technique, helping learners correct bad habits such as improper wrist angles or incorrect fingering in the moment.

The coach features a conversational interface that supports 40 different languages. Users can speak naturally to the AI, giving commands like teach me a new song, let's practice chords, or give me a game. The AI adapts each session dynamically to the user's goals and skill level rather than following a rigid, linear curriculum. It can adjust the tempo of a song, repeat difficult bars, or switch between different sheet music views upon voice command, acting as a patient and always-available personal tutor. This ecosystem is designed to be a more accessible and flexible alternative to traditional in-person lessons, providing professional-level guidance from the comfort of home.
