AI Farming for Classroom
April 17, 2026
The WLKATA Mirobot Fruit Picking Cell is a comprehensive educational workstation designed to simulate smart farming and agricultural robotics. It provides a realistic training environment for students and researchers to learn about AI vision-based automation, specifically focused on the challenges of identifying and harvesting fruit. The cell is built around the 6-axis Mirobot robotic arm and integrates several smart components to create a fully autonomous workflow.
The core of the system is the VisionSoftGrip end effector, which combines a soft gripper tool with a starter AI vision camera. This enables the Mirobot to see and interpret its surroundings, allowing for object recognition, color and shape detection, and vision-based robot control. The cell also includes a fruit trees kit featuring fruit models like apples, oranges, and pears, along with collection baskets and calibration stands. To simplify the user experience, the system is equipped with a touchscreen module for one-click start and stop operations, and a central AI-HUB controller that supports drag-and-drop graphic programming via the WLKATA BlockFactory platform.
Technically, the workstation is constructed on a small production cell smart base and includes an LED-lighted infographic panel that doubles as a fill light for the vision sensor and an educational display. The system is highly programmable, offering compatibility with the Arduino IDE and providing comprehensive developer resources such as Python SDKs, ROS2 control packages, and MATLAB simulation support. The workcell is designed for quick setup and includes a detailed educational resource kit with experiment handbooks, source code, and video tutorials.
