The Insta360 X4 Air is a compact, ultralight 8K 360 camera. The X4 Air, weighing just 5.8 ounces (165 grams), the X4 Air is the lightest 8K 360 camera in Insta360’s extensive lineup. The X4 Air features dual 1/1.8-inch sensors—significantly larger than those in the previous X4 model. This upgrade results in an increase in pixel area per frame, enabling sharper detail, richer color, and improved low-light performance. The camera supports 8K video recording at 24 frames per second, with Active HDR now available at full resolution. This real-time dynamic range enhancement ensures lifelike highlights and shadows, even in challenging lighting conditions.

One of the standout innovations is AdaptiveTone, Insta360’s intelligent exposure algorithm. It analyzes light from both lenses independently to balance brightness and color across the full 360° image. This minimizes the need for post-processing and preserves detail in skies, shadows, and skin tones. Portrait Mode further refines facial rendering by automatically adjusting exposure and color for natural, smooth results.

Durability is another area of focus. The X4 Air introduces user-replaceable lenses with an ultra-hard optical coating that doubles drop resistance compared to its predecessor. Lenses can be swapped in seconds, and optional guards provide extra protection without introducing glare. The camera is waterproof up to 49 feet (15 meters).

Control options are designed for hands-free operation. Twist to Shoot lets users start or stop recording with a simple twist of the selfie stick. Gesture Control recognizes quick hand signals for capturing photos or videos, while Voice Control enables remote commands without touching the device.

The X4 Air supports InstaFrame Mode, which records a flat video alongside the full 360 version. This dual capture approach gives creators instant shareable content while retaining full editing flexibility. Battery life is rated at 88 minutes for 8K recording. The camera charges to 80% in just over 30 minutes with its 2010mAh battery. A microSD slot accommodates up to 1TB of storage.

Physically, the X4 Air measures approximately 4.5 × 1.8 × 1.5 inches (114 × 46 × 37 mm), making it easy to pocket or mount. It’s compatible with most X5 accessories and available in Graphite Black and Arctic White.
