AIBO Entertainment Robots - Sony (discontinued)

Unlike my kid brother, the more you teach TEKNO the robot puppy, the smarter he gets! TEKNO the robot puppy features the latest in hi-tech circuitry and sensory input devices. All the technology housed within the puppy enables true emotions and real time moods. Fully animated eyes, ears, and tail, TEKNO possesses voice activation and an internal clock to adjust to your lifestyle. Learning and memory are empowered by the integrated circuitry and microprocessor that controls all of TEKNO's functions. Teach TEKNO how to - speak -do a card trick - sing and dance - say his name. Ears flap up and down! Eyes light up with emotion. Tail wags side to side. And he walks!

i-Cybie

Just like a real dog, i-Cybie likes to be petted and played with. The dog also likes to do tricks and will respond when you give commands.

i-Cybie will sometimes simply walk around a little and look for someone to play with!  While i-Cybie cruises around your home, the sensors on the dog will help i-Cybie stay out of trouble.

The pup has four main emotions that will develop with play. These emotions are Happy, Hyper, Sad, and Sleepy. If you do not play with i-Cybie for a while, the dog is programmed to shut down and go to sleep.

i-Cybie responds to sounds and can tell where the sounds came from. Touch sensors allow i-Cybie to detect when you are petting it.  An infrared transmitter and detector allow i-Cybie to communicate with other robot pets.

Inside a Robot Pet

Toy designers and engineers use the latest technologies to make robot pets just as lovable as real pets.

Instead of a brain, robot pets have a computer processor and electronic memory. Artificial intelligence (AI)  is the software that helps the robot "learn".

Where a real dog or cat has eyes, ears and a mouth, a robot pet has cameras, microphones and a speaker. This allows a robot pet to see things, to hear things and respond to you. Motors and cables act as the muscles in a robopet that let it move.

Instead of food, a robot pet needs electricity. Most robot pets get their power from rechargeable batteries. The best thing about robot pets are that there are no messy accidents on the floor.

Robot pets are much more reliable than real pets. Some robot pets are used to remind the elderly to take their medication. They can also start barking softly when it is time for you to get up (on a school day), and bark louder if you don't get up.

Robot pets are getting cuter and smarter every year. Don't be surprised if you find one frolicking in your neighborhood soon.
